Resisting Change Is Much Worse Than The Change Itself

If a person is too reluctant to change, it may mean that they do not take responsibility for their problems. Instead, they prefer to blame everyone else for the mistakes they make.

Why are we so afraid of and will resist change when life is so full of it? That is the only thing that is constant. This is something we can be sure of. We are not the same person we were yesterday, and no matter how hard we try, we are not the same person we will be tomorrow.

An accumulation of circumstances causes this to happen, even if we do not understand it. Therefore, we must stop fearing and resisting change. Resisting new things is not the way we should live. Now, why do we tend to think that things used to be better before ?

Stop resisting change

Idealizing the past is one of our habits. It is basically the result of the tendency we have to forget the negative aspects of things and focus only on the positive ones. Therefore, we remember only the good aspects of our childhood. Also, if we meet ourselves in a moment of worry and despair, we will probably end up comparing how we live to past moments we think were easier.

Our memories are not reliable since they are always changing. In fact, memories have a sensitive period where they can be modified according to new events. That is why we continue to rose paint everything and save it to use it as a comparison model every time something happens to us.

If we take into account what we discussed earlier, it would not be strange for us to believe that our brains were prefabricated to make us fear good and bad change. This means that the brain likes to feel safe, so that any change or new experience causes it to leave its comfort zone, leading to a feeling of fear. It is logical for it to despise and resist change, right?

On the other hand, the excess adrenaline we produce to cope with change can confuse the brain and cause it to associate it with feelings of mistrust or anger. However, we must remember that this chemical activation helps us to prepare and cope with new situations. Therefore, all changes, even those that you fear most, have a certain melancholy in themselves.

Change when you have the opportunity to do so

Author, poet and philosopher Henry David Thoreau, came up with a very accurate statement: things do not change, we change. The flow of life affects us and transforms us in some way. The sooner we accept it, the better it will be as it helps us deal with the changes we face. That way, we will not be stuck in the past or in the illusion of the future. We will finally focus on living in the present.

We are not the same person we used to be last year. The ones we love are not the same either. We are constantly changing. It’s amazing to realize that no matter how much others change, we still appreciate them no matter what. We should do the same with ourselves.

Resisting change is a weakness

Mental health depends on the person’s ability to develop and adapt to the conditions. Staying grounded in models and primitive schemes will only cause us to accumulate anxiety. Therefore, we should not resist learning from our experiences and change thanks to them.

Avoiding change manifests our desire to stay in our comfort zone where we do not have to face our fears. Change requires confrontational uncertainty and knowing that we will feel anxious and insecure when we do.

On the other hand, if a person is too reluctant to change, it may mean that they do not take responsibility for their problems. Instead, they prefer to blame everyone else for the mistakes they make. It’s definitely a lot easier than owning up to your problems. But that keeps you from moving on.
