INFJ Personality, The Rarest Personality (According To Carl Jung)

INFJ personality, the rarest personality (According to Carl Jung)

The INFJ personality, a unique combination of the psychological characteristics of introversion, intuition, emotion and judgment, represents – according to Carl Jung – only 1% of the population.

This personality is idealistic, calm, firm in his values, very sensitive, but confident in himself and always oriented towards improving the lives of others.

If you have not heard of this personality type, it will not take you long to find a book. There are all kinds of articles that list the 10 key qualities they have with this personality.

Those with the INFJ personality are somewhat fashionable in America and Europe. Although at first glance it may make you think of a very sensitive personality, they are not exactly the same.

To understand the INFJ personality a little better, let’s take a trip to the origins. The INFJ classification is actually part of the “Myers-Briggs Type Indicator”,  a personality test designed to identify our personal preferences. This test is based on the psychological types developed by Carl Jung, defined through his clinical experience.

Today, this indicator is mainly used for group dynamics and personal growth tests. However, we should say that several academic settings and strict psychological literature do not give it much validity.

But Carl Jung’s work with psychological types is always interesting. It has become quite popular, especially his contribution to the study of personality.

So, out of all of Myers-Briggs’ personalities, the INFJ stands out as the most rare and unique. Let’s dig a little deeper…

The INFJ personality

The INFJ personality, or “the lawyer”

The Myers-Briggs is a kind of psychological test that educators usually like. It makes it easier for students to get to know each other and to make more informed decisions  about their academic and work-related future.

Through the four scales, we can, for example, know how we see the world, how we treat our surroundings, or how we relate to each other.

It is based on 8 types of extroverted personalities and 8 introverted personalities,  where the INFJ personality is the most unusual of them all. Here are the characteristics of those with this personality.

Oriented towards helping others

The INFJ personality is a “lawyer type” for the following reasons:

  • They are idealistic and have a high sense of what is right and what is wrong.
  • They are governed by their values and beliefs.
  • One of their clearest goals is to help others.
  • However, they are not limited to saving others because the INFJ personality has the ability to inspire, help others improve, develop and become people who do not need to be saved.

They are good at relating to others, but they value being alone

This type of personality profile has a special ability to build relationships. They know how to make friends and keep them, they are warm and friendly, and easy to have conversations with others.

Seen from the outside,  they can give the impression that they are outgoing. However, with the INFJ personality, they control their time to be social very well, and limit it for a very basic reason.

They are introverted by nature and need time alone to recharge energy.

They are active dreamers

INFJs are tireless dreamers. However, their dreams are not just wishful thinking, as for passive dreamers with idealism that is so fragile and light that the wind can blow it away. It is quite the opposite.

This personality has a natural need to contribute to society, and from there dream while awake to act with conviction and determination.

At work, these people always show independence, focus, high creativity and a lot of intuition. In addition, they often enjoy both art and science.

Their enthusiasm and idealism can exhaust them

People with the INFJ personality have only one problem: society. In a world full of differences, closed doors and walls that must be overcome every day, it is easy to become discouraged. Therefore, it is common for an INFJ to end up disappointed and physically and emotionally exhausted.

It is not easy for them to face daily criticism, stress and clashes between their idealism and harsh reality. Another fact that characterizes them is also that they often forget to take care of themselves.

Given the most important characteristics of this type of personality defining Carl Gustav Jung, we can see that INFJs are those who have thoughts that echo in the world and create revolutions.

This 1% of the population is actually the light of our society. People with clear ideals, dreamers with a purpose who want to give their best to others.

If you think you have an INFJ personality, we offer only one piece of advice: continue without ignoring your ideals. We should never give up, because sometimes 1% of the population is enough to inspire the other 99%.
