5 Reasons Why It’s Not Worth Being A Pessimist

Could the British author Arnold Bennett be right? He said that “Pessimism, when you get used to it, is as pleasant as optimism”.
5 reasons why it is not worth being a pessimist

Can it really be a positive thing to be a pessimist? The only thing we know is true is that being pessimistic is a type of attitude we can choose to have in life. It is a way of thinking that filters the way we see reality. It also changes the way we predict what will happen in our lives. We can interpret everything that happens in our lives in a positive or negative way. People who believe that the world is terrible, and that they are surrounded by a terrible environment, make their lives more difficult.

Reasons why it is not worth being a pessimist

A pessimist is not necessarily a sad person, as we have previously thought. In other words, not all pessimists see the world in a depressing way or feel emotional pain.

It is common for pessimistic people to deal with something difficult that makes them feel that way. However, pessimistic people do not have to be that way. As we continue to go through struggles in our lives, this can make us feel pessimistic. We may begin to experience learned helplessness. This is true because according to the logic of a pessimist, it will not be worth fighting or striving to make progress.

Although being pessimistic is not the best way to live, we cannot generalize to pessimistic people. Pessimism is a way of thinking that we can develop around various injustices or situations. However, this is not a daily occurrence for a pessimistic person.

A pessimist seeks the truth

One good thing about pessimists is that they usually prefer the truth to being deceived by a lie. They prefer a realistic version of the world where they can see things for what they are.

But even though pessimists are good at accepting unpleasant truths, it is also true that they do not try to understand the world with objectivity. They expect only the worst and believe that everything is bad and based on practical lies. It is as if they believe that the truth must be negative. Everything that is good or positive must be a lie.

A pessimist focuses only on the negative

As we have seen, a pessimistic attitude always emphasizes and focuses on the negative. A pessimistic attitude does not allow the person to focus on something positive. Everything must be negative.

These types of people rarely, if ever, focus on the good things in their lives. Their focus is most likely on the negative no matter what happens in their life. Having such a negative outlook on life can be tiring.

They always have low expectations

Pessimists really make the saying “you get what you want” true. They have personalities that protect them from positive expectations. They do not allow themselves to believe that something good can happen. In fact, they do not expect anything to get better unless they try hard or do something extra. And even then, pessimists believe that difficult things are not likely to go well.

Their pessimistic attitude will to some extent protect them from disappointment. If they do not set high expectations, a bad reality may not surprise them. On the other hand, not only pessimists use this strategy. We have all done so to protect ourselves, and we have certainly come to the realization that this attitude is not always necessary.

They experience mourning processes more often

Pessimistic people go through grief processes more often than others. In addition to the real losses they face in their lives, they must also face the losses they expect that may or may not happen. Therefore, they go through imaginary grief processes. We say imaginary because things they grieve over have not really happened.

An unconscious or dormant setting

Socially, we do not always have a high regard for pessimism (even more so when positive psychology has become so popular). Therefore, pessimists tend to hide their attitudes. In addition, their attitude may be so involved in their thinking that they may be pessimistic without knowing it.

Pessimism is a filter or attitude that we can use when choosing it. No matter what happens in our lives, we can choose to see these events in a positive or negative way. Science says that optimism actually seems to help us deal with problems, even if it’s just a self-fulfilling prophecy that works.
